Around our house there are two issues with cleaning the showers. First, our water should be rocks it's so hard. Second, my husband has to be the oiliest guy on the planet. So I end up with this oily orange stuff that coats everything.
To make matters even worse, I can't use any kind of abrasives on the surfaces of my tubs and showers, or I will scratch the protective coating on them. So I was left scrubbing and scrubbing and not getting very far.
Then about three weeks ago, I stumbled upon a Pinterest post that sounded way too simple to actually work. However, three different people posted it and said it did indeed work. So I figured I could at least try it.
Now like I said, it's really simple (and cheap which is even better!). All you do is get Dawn dishwashing liquid (I like to use the blue kind so you can easily tell where you've sprayed and where you haven't) and distilled white vinegar. Mix the two in a spray bottle, half and half.
Spray the mixture on your shower--door, walls, floor, whatever. Do a small piece first just to see how this works.
Then let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour. When you get back, take a regular wash cloth. Rinse the spot you sprayed with water and wipe with the washcloth. This will instantly dissolve tub rings, soap scum, and that disgusting orange stuff as well.
Shortly after finding this miracle, I went to my nephew's new house. He had bought it on foreclosure and the poor thing was in sad shape. The previous children had colored all over the bathtub, and the dirty tub ring was horrible. I figured I would try out this stuff and see if it really worked.
I sprayed and cleaned immediately at first, and with minimal scrubbing the crayons came off. Then I got called away. So I sprayed that awful ring in the tub quickly and went to help elsewhere, thinking there was no way I was ever going to get that thing cleaned.
Well, an hour later everyone was getting ready to leave and I remembered the tub. I ran in there, turned on the water, grabbed a cloth, and started wiping. The dirt literally just ran down the drain! In less than five minutes that whole tub and surrounding shower were sparkling, and my nephew was in shock.
I know, it sounds so simple, but if you're like me, you've got way more productive and fun things to be doing rather than spending hours scrubbing to no avail. Try it. I'd love to know if it works for you as well as it did for me. Good luck and happy cleaning!

My pleasure, Tom. All thanks to Staci for this great "recipe."
DeleteWow ! This is amazing - thank you so much. I was going to buy scum scrubber today but we didn't quite have the money in our budget. I am so excited to try this out. Glad to find your site !!!
ReplyDeleteHannah, I'm so glad this helped you out! It helped me too. I mixed this and now have a new shower cleaner. Yaay! It works on sinks and toilets too. How cool is that??
DeleteThis is one of those "Oh, thank You, Jesus!" things for me. It truly makes all the time I spend (waste - ahem!) on Pinterest worth it! Last weekend, I had to clean a shower that literally hadn't been cleaned in over a year. The last tenant just moved out, and I didn't think to look in or clean the shower. With new tenant moving in next week, I thought about it and UGH!
DeleteIt took about 10 spray it, leave it, rinse it, wipe it... spray it, etc. But I got that thing clean! I told my husband, "You want to see a miracle?!!!" So glad it's helping others out too. Thanks April for hosting me. This one was a blast!
Thanks for such important article..These tips are amazing..
ReplyDeleteJonie, you can't go wrong with this cheap cleaner. I've been using it for a month now and still love it. Thanks for stopping by!
